No Spark need help


hey yall i thought i was having a timming problem but its a spark issue i have a new points distrib new cap/rotor new coil and new plugs. the coil is getting warm like the points are not working but ive tried two distribs and nothing tried switching the main wire from coil to cap, nothing.

i have pos going from batt thru resistor to switch to coil and neg from batt to coil and dist wire to neg on coil.

Try disconnecting that wire going from the neg side of the coil to the battery. Sounds like your grounding out the coil.

Need a bit of clarification here. What year of engine you are working with if you are using points? Or is it a later model electronic pickup distributor. Stock or after market (Mallory etc.)

If you are using an older points distributor, the negative of your coil goes to the points only, the coil makes it's ground through the points opening and closing, this is how the coil is triggered to spark. It looks like you have 12 volts going right through the coil to ground, bypassing your distributor/points.

its a newer motor 80's with a stock 1972 distrib
