i'm putting 4.10's in an aod, figured that was a good fit

i don't have enough knowledge on the subject to post a write up, my uncle is going to do most of mine

call a machine shop, and it took us maybe 4.5 hours to pull my diff off, my friends diff off, tear them both apart and another spare one that the 4.10s came out of, put everything back together and put both diffs back on and bleed the brakes, if it was just one car it prob woulda been more like 2.5 hours, and just grab a phone book and look for machine shops by you

If your installer does not have all the tools and equipment to do the job then you are best off going to someone else. Pinion depth should be measured although it can be done with only marking compound. Backlash has to be measured.

The pinion depth is set by placing shims under the pinion bearing, which is pressed on. If you have to set the depth without measuring you have to guess at the shim thickness, set it all up and check with marking compound. If it's wrong then you have to take it all back apart, pull the bearing off, guess on the next size shim and do it all over again. To get it set up right can take a long time.

Take a look at this write up.

8.8 Axle Gear Install

It's not a hard job for someone who is experianced and has all the right equipment. If you are doing it in your driveway it can be a real bear.
