why 408

Can someone tell me why if you are going to go with a 408 (351 base motor) why wouldn't you just go on up to a 425/427????

6.2 rod is a cheap chevy part and there is just something about a 4 inch stroke.

I prefer the bigger engines.

A 418/425 uses a 6.200 rod too.

If I had to build antoher stroker Windsor,I'd go for the World Mega block, with 4.125/4.155 bore and no more than 3.85 stroke. This would keep the side loads on the piston down less friction and longer ring/bore life. Larger bore would give better air flow from large valve cylinder heads.

My 4.100 stroke engine has been living for 6+ years and about 50,000 miles now. Not to mention the thousands of close to 8000 rpm, 9 second 1/4 mile passes it has made.

In your opinion whats the best fully forged kit to get for a 408 combo that will later get a T76 turbo , factory roller block ?

Darrell, what size mains do you run, and do you run a standard oil pump?

but the difference is, these are race proven kits, assembled by bennett, a proven builder/racer, and the one I posted is a VERY good deal. You can get anything cheaper, but it is in the quality of the prep, and assembly that make ALL the difference. I just know Bennett has an outstanding reputation in the 5.0 scene.

That is sweet Darrell. Hey, so you are/were running a 3" main, that everyone says has all the problems oiling huh? That is what I run, and have been scared to spin it over 7500 rpms, not that it will probably do me any good with my non-portmatched intake, but it is good to see that yours held up.
