Question

Gt40


Hi all....i keep hearing about the Gt40 intake from a explorer will work good on a mustang? can someone explain to me what will the Gt40 will do to the 302. Thanks Mike

they bolt right up. if you port them there going to flow better. the heads off the 5.0 explorers are the same as the 93 cobra. works well with other supporting mods....mainly s/c.....what type of power do you want to make?

GT40 intakes flow more and produce more torque... they are basically the same as the ford racing GT40 tubular intake and cobra intakes just without the name plate and individual tubes but flow the same numbers.

There are two types of explorer intakes and explorer heads!

I forget what years but one version has provisions for sensors and egr where as the other version does not.. which requires you to tap/drill

Also there are gt40 heads and then gt40P heads... the gt40 are direct swap and what came on the 93 cobra and first gen lightnings but the P heads are the later style and are a slight gain over the standard 40 head but angled requiring P specific headers and since the plugs are angled it makes plug changes alittle more challenging but if you had the headers or modded a set of headers to fit them there worth it.

don't forget the moutaineers... if you do not find an exploder, they are the same...

The heads off some Explorers are the same as 93-95 Cobras. 97.5 and newer Explorers and Mountaineers have GT40P heads. All earlier Explorers and Mountaineers have standard GT40 heads.
