Electric Fan

I am installing my electric fan this weekend, and have bought the flex a lite vsc control, and was wondering if I need to put a relay in with it. I have the taures fan, and a pa performance 130 amp altonator. It puts out 80 amps at idle, will the fan be to much for the alt? I know the fan draw is 40 amps at start up, what is it after it is running? The vsc control has a soft start also. Thanks in advance Mark

i would put a relay on even if it didn't need it....not a bad idea and cheap.....

just throwing this out there.....start the car take the bat out and turn the fan out see what it does...can't be no worse than a big stereo amp....and i have never heard of people having probs with this....

I'd do it - here's a good write up on the install you'll be doing:

I say use a relay it'll take the spike rather then your alt or wiring but check and make sure your model efan doesn't already have one built in. Most if not all those black magic fans have them built in

I have the same on my 91 turbo gt and it's been that way for four years so far no problems but on my daily driver 88 lx I have a 3g small case alt and ramchargers dual efan setup

+1000000 on a relay. Think about it like this, they put breakers in a house for a reason, to take the spikes. You car is no different, so put one in to protest your investment from burning to the ground.

Installing a relay, very good idea. Removing the battery while the car is running VERY BAD idea. That will result in major electrical system damage.
