I spun a bearing today turning my 3" main'd 383w on the dyno at 7500 rpms, so I am done. Going to the dark side. looking into ls power I think. I am parting the car out, so if there is anything you need, look at my thread in the engine section of the classifieds.
Oh, it made 420hp/411tq@6800/5400 sae on 7 cylinders, pluged number 8 back in and made 489hp/472tq@7150/5450 sae. Then the squeeking started...The carb is too small, and it only liked 30* timing. Ran 14:1 most all the time, and had a really flat curve, but did not like rpms on those big mains. I guess some just get all the luck, and I get none..lol

Did you pull the oil pan off? What does the crank look like? A spun bearing isn't a big deal and is an easy fix.

Ya I did Darrell, and it would be an easy fix. It didn't even mark the crank. I am just done for a while. I am looking at another car already, that makes 330 hp to the tire with just a tune and exhaust, bet you can't guess what family engine that would be?lol...

yea that is the draw back of the Windsor motor is the big mains and high bearing wear due to them. I had my crank cross-drilled to help with oiling but never used it to see if it would help. stayed with the small cid and went with a R-Block. Sorry to hear you are thinking of moving over the LS engines are good engines just a shame they wrap them in shit.

I've never had a problem with 3" mains and I beat the spin the jesus out of my engines.
