Seafoam.
Another question from Jornez about his car. We changed his valve covers becuse the ones on it were warped and he was leaking oil by the quart from them. When we took them off to change gaskets and covers the lifters were covered in sludge. He changed the oil today and in fifteen minutes the fresh oil was black and shitty again, so we're going to change it again Friday, and put an oil treatment in it. The question is can he seafoam that engine or is that a bad idea?

I wasn't sure if we could seafoam or not, I've heard not to use it on certain applications, so i was just making sure, we are already running an oil treatment and we've changed the oil once and we're doing it again this weekend. The buildup is terrible, I can't imagine how the lifters are still moving, that shit was the consistency of pudding in there.

It was just like that when he bought it. probably hasn't been change since 89. It was leaking oil like a son of a bitch from the valve covers because they were warped, when we took them off to change the gaskets we realized he needed new valve covers and some serious oil treatment.

The 351 runs like a charm, it's probably just losing half it's power trying to push the lifters up, haha. We raced and he was beside me through the first two gears. Totally hurt my feelings, then I broke my rear end. Terrible day for me. A half working 351W gave me a run for my money then I broke mine.

I know alot of guy's swear by the Seafoam solution but driving around at all with something that is flushing your engine just sounds like a bad idea, and it it. If it is sludged up that badly, get a can of GUNK Motor Flush and follow the directions on the can. Don't drive the car or put the engine under load while your flushing it unless you want to do a rebuild, you'll waste the bearings. I have used this engine flush numerous times, it works extremely well on overhead cam engines with noisy valve trains and equally well on 5.0's.

my car was running like ass especially in higher rpms you could feel it breaking up, i put seafoam through the vaccum lines and crank case...and after about 25 miles of driving with it in the crank case, the car ran alot smoother and pulled smoothly all the way to 6000 rpms, i'd recommend, but i'd also recommend full synthetic, i use royal purple.

I have used seafoam on everything from snomobiles to old tractors, vaccum lines gas tank, it works good in fuel as a stabilizer, the high ethanol fuel can go bad faster then the non blend it helps prevent that

my mom has a jeep cherokee with the 4.0 straight six and she is the worst person i know for maintaing her vehicles. Anyways all of the 20,000 miles plus between oil changes took it's toll on her jeep and it devoloped a top end tick probably from the sludge and I put a full pint of seafoam and pop'd off the valve cover and cleaned as much as i could. Well anyways ran it changed the oil and tick went away. I'm a believer.

I don't think driving around with Seafoam in the crankcase sounds like a good idea either but I am doing it right now on one of my cars.
I have a bad tick for a few minutes on cold starts on a 4cly car of mine, the 10 minute Gunk flush helped a little but now I'm trying a 1/2 can of Seafoam and driving for a few weeks. The cam and crank shaft seals are bad and the timing belt needs changed. I'll do those if the tick goes away ![]() I had an FPR problem dumping fuel into my intake on my Mustang. By the time I figured it out, the engine internals were very clean. I'd never do that on purpose though. It took a few oil changes to get all of the fuel out of there and I'm sure my bearings and walls were feeling some pain.
