spark plug wire question

ok this is probly really basic but i never noticed it before, while helping a friend do a tune up on his iroc i noticed the plug wires he had bought had a distributor side and a plug side,

are all wires like this?

yea....far as i've always seen....the distributor is gonna have a little tiny boot because the point is right there. the spark plug side has to be able to fit down over the plug itself and bend to whatever shape it needs to depending on the heads,angle,etc.

i mean look at a set of wires for a 5.0... and try to imagine putting them on backwards haha.

If the spark plug wire is damaged the vehicle may stop on working right? It will have problems on starting?
