Early shifting aod

I have a 1990 mustang. Car has most basic bolt ons.....Full exhaust, full intake with 24 lbs injectors, 3.73's. I got the car after it sat for about four years unused. Trans was rebuilt about a thousand miles before the car was parked. When in drive, it'll shift around 1500 in each gear unless it's floored, then it'll shift around 4000. It does fine when shifted manually, but man, if left in drive, i'll be in third before crossing an intersection from a stop. Is this normal, or is something wrong? And more importantley, can it be adjusted at home? I searched and didn't find anything helpful. Thanks, Jason

yes its normal , the gears are making the effects of the early shifting worse , get a shift kit in it and it should help , as well as a good stall

here is a detailed way to do it without a guage, you can usually get it pretty close with this procedure.

Ford AOD Transmission
