buying a new used engine
tomorrow im going to go pick up a fully rebuilt 306. has 300 miles on it. he said it has a HO cam but doesnt know the specs so i dont know if its from an HO motor or a cam that is better than stock. but of course, ive got some questions:
Im gonna transfer my cam from my old motor to my new motor and use the same pushrods in the same location as they were in the old motor. heads will be transfered over too once they are back from the shop. Do i have to re-break the cam in (sit their for 15 min at 2000 rpms)? the engine sat for the winter season in a garage. when i pull the heads ill dump a little oil in the pistons and hand crank it over a couple times. is this a good idea? what are things i should look for when picking up this engine? |

No need to put the push rods in order.....no break in time on the cam.

stock heads as far as i know. the cam I have is a E303, and the heads are Windsor Jr.
heads are going to the shop to get cleaned up and check out, possibly a little machine work just to make it flow better, nothing to special. |

No break in on roller cams. No particular reason to worry about push rod position as long as they are all in good condition. When I disassemble valve trains I usually do maintain part orientation but it sounds like your using some from here some from there so it won't matter they will be mixed up anyway.

thats all i want. not looking for big power yet. gonna stick money into the 351, just not sure what to with it yet.
i thought about a different cam, but when the cam was in the running 302, i like it. had the perfect sound and better than stock power. |
