Dumb 351w Question.

I know this is prolly a dumb question, but here it goes. If the 302 and 351w are both the same basic block then why can't a stock 5.0 oil pan be used??

from what I've read its a half inch difference. Why not use the fox pump and fox pan?? why wouldn't allk the fox pieces work then?

The 302 uses a rear-sump pan, the 351W uses a front-sump oil pan, which necessitates a new pickup.

Bolt pattern is a little different as well. Both 5.0 and 5.8 were available with both front and rear sump pans depending on the application. The easiest way is to just buy the Ford Motorsports pan and pickup.

Do you see any need to get the 7 quart canton pan or is the 5 quart Ford kit just as good? I found the Ford kit at jegs for 135. Also do you run shorties or long tubes?

um in the 7qt you run 7, it has more room at the bottom of the pan to keep the oil away from the crank........

we run the ford swap pan on severy mid to low 10 sec cars and have no problems, we actually put 6 in the ford pan
