Transmission Help!

I need to know if this is a good deal.

My next-door neighbor has a Borg Warner transmission for sale and he wants $300 for it. He says it was rebuilt and only has about 400 miles on it. Are these good transmissions and is there anything that I need to look for? I need another one because the syncroes are gone for second gear in mine and it is really getting to be a pain shifting from first to third.

Any and all help would be appreaciated.

synchronizes aren't that much i believe
it would cost more replacing the whole tranny than just a synchronize. and why are you shifting from 1 to 3

why would it cost more? just pulls one and the other bolts right up. then have the other tranny built and keep it around or sell it
