What gear ratio should I use?

My stang is basically stock with a 5.0 and five speed and 2.73 gears. I want to change the gears before I modify anything else but I still want to be able to drive on the freeway. Should I put 3.55 or 3.73 gears in it?

What are your intentions for the car? Drag racing? Street/strip?, corner-carver? etc.

355 for everyday, 373 for street/strip, the 373 is what I would personally go with

My emphasis for this car is quarter mile performance, but its my daily driver so I dont want to go to low with the gears. As long as 373s are still drviable on the street I think Ill just go with them instead of 355s.

3.73s are an excellent street gear.

One more thing... what rpm can I expect to be turning at 60 in 5th with 373s? And what about 70? Is it gonna be high enough to do any damage if I drove a long distance on the freeway?

There was a thread around here, in the 5.0 section I think, where they mathematically worked that out.

It's here, actually, because I decided to be nice. Look on the second page to find out how to determine your RPM.
