flexplate headache

My dad has a 65 mustang with a 5.0 and a C4 tranny
we took off the flywheel because upon start up the car would grind..
assuming the flexplate was incorrect

a few questions
Do they have different flexplate in any of the 5.0s?
this flexplate has a circular shim for the flexplate bolt holes....
As far as my memory goes this shim goes between the crank and the flexplate...or does it go between the flexplate bolts and flexplate?

please help we wasted a lot of time today bolting up and unbolting the tranny because the weight on the flexplate hit that PLate between the bellhousing and back of the motor...clearly something is incorrect.

obviously the shims go between the crank and flexplate because if you put them between the bolts and flexplate its not gonna move the flexplate.

Well is this a 302 or 5.0?
The flex are different in weight...but as mentioned...the spacer if you have one will be on the crank.
