well its a roll bar, a 6point roll bar is required in a coupe if you are running 11.49 and quicker, a cage actually goes forward into the dash and are 8-point, 12-point. but those are for 9.99-7.99

11.49 or quicker requiers a 5pt bar minium. and a 8pt system does not go through the dash. 10pt cages go through the dash. and if you are running 11.49 or quicker you also have to have a quick release harness system. and the roll bar hoop must not be more than 6 inches from the drivers head with a helmet on and the rear hoop braces cannot be welded more than 5 inches from the top of the rear hoop. when in doubt buy the nhra book because as you can tell people think the now the rules and they dont...

My advice would be to look into your future plans. A 6 point roll bar is required 11.49 (IHRA) and 11.99 (NHRA). If your future plans include going faster than that I'd recomend doing a 10 point roll cage right away. I'd recomend chromoly too if you can swing it because it is lighter and the resale value of the car will be higher as well.

As of 2006 rules its a 5 pt cage not a 6pt. and the way to get around the 11.49 thing if you are at a test and tune is when the light turns just wait a second or two after the light turns green then go. so if you usually run say a 11.30 and you wait 2 seconds you will run a 13.30!! take your timeslips home punch the numbers into a drag calc and you will know what you approx. run....

That won't work because each lanes timer doesn't start until you break the beam. I could set there all day after the green and it's only going to tell me what I ran after I break the timing beam.
The ONLY way around it would be to let off the gas before you go through the traps.

Yeah, that is okay, but i still think it defeats the purpose of having a fast car. We all know he went faster than a 14 second run, why not just get a cage and have your real numbers light up the time screen? Maybe he is cheap like me and didnt want to have to buy a cage so he found that route was better.

The only problem with that is there is not only an ET break down but also a mph break down. I'd have to look in the rule book but the rules state xx.xx et and/or xxx mph. Being lazy off the line will kill the ET horribly but it won't kill the mph at all.
