clutch problem in a 92' 5.0


hey all.. my name is brett and im new here... my friend has a 92' 5.0 and is havin problems with his clutch.. he still has pressure behind it and the car wont stall at a stand still, but its gotten to a point where it wont catch enough to change gears... if anyone has an answers to this please help...

the clutch cable my be strecthed out...my friends cable was stretching and you could not shift with grinding gears...we put a new cable and adjustable quadrant and firewall adjuster and it worked fine...

As for you not being able change gears it sounds like the cable. If it is not stalling at a standstill while it is in gear and the clutch is engaged, that means the clutch is shot.

A good way too see if it is the clutch, try going 25mph and put it in a high gear like 4th or 5th and nail the gas. If the rpms go up rapidly while the clutch is engaged that means it's time for a new one. If it is good, the rpms should gradually go up.

The 92 may have an auto adjuster as my 86 GT had if it's stock. With the tip of your toe pull the clutch pedal towards you (it should move an inch or 2) then press it to the floor. Try this a few times, hopefully the little cog will catch teeth on the quadrant.

my sons 93 gt had a frayed clutch cable down by the fork causing the cable to jamb in the sleeve causing the clutch to not engage fully and fried the clutch
