mine is on the outside, i have subframe connectors so its a full straight edge all the way back, i have clamps and rubber gromets that have it attached to the inside corner of the frame, its been like that for about 2 years now, no rubbing, no issues

if its not broken dont fix it.....

the only reason i would put it in the inside is to keep it from rotting.....maybe something chewing threw it.....it could be 100 things...

it just sounds like a better idea to not run a power wire under your car.....IMO

I ran mine under the car, on the drivers side. Just use the metal and rubber clamps every foot. run it next to the frame rail. use rubber grommets for the holes.

I run #2 cable through blue flexible conduit to protect it. One nick or wear through and it's up in smoke Tommy.

You can run it under the car, but run it along the frame rail away from the exhaust..
