help with my 5.0 decission ... need input

i have finally finished redoing most of my interior and i am getting ready to start on the engine, i dont know much about cars this is my first stang and its more of a learning experience than anything, i am looking to build a daily driver/weekend racer so i would like some hp gains without totally ruing my gas milliage, but i would like to get some more giddyup,

so far i have done all the things i already knew about, shorties short headers, flowmasters, have put in bbk cold air intake and an aluminum radiator, so what are some good recomendations from there, should i build in any specific order, i want my car to run as healthy as possible as i tend to run it hard

also, i am trying to get the car lighter, fiberglass trunk and fiberglass hood so far, will switching my doors from power locks/windows to manual doors from another 89 stang make a difference that is big enough to be worth it? ?

and lastly i have a 1989 lx 5.0 do i already have trac-lok and what is the difference between track loc and posi ? and what are the bennifits from a posi reared vs trac loc, and what are the difference/positives in gear ratio's?

i love learning about my new found addiction
and really appreciate you guys sharing your knowledge

go for some 3.73 or 4.10 gears. the trac lok is a limited slip differential, you can look it up on wikipedia if you dont know what a LSD is.

Go ahead and sell the shorty short headers and buy some long tubes and gear it.

getting long tubes isnt necessary at this point...get some gears like I said and I think you should start looking into some aftermarket cylinder heads, a camshaft and an intake. Look at some other threads and on other sites and see what other people are doing

go for some intake and heads its a fuel injected car if you dont increase the displacement you shouldn hurt gas millage to much, but t a 4.10 gear will kill you highway millage i have a 331 stroker with 385ft lbs at rear wheels and 3.73 gears and got 21 mpg highway on a long trip once doing like 75 mph you right foot will affect your millage more than anything

yeah..4.10's will hurt your highway mileage. Just depends on where and what you use the car for. Mine is mostly around town and short trips, but I race it every week so I like the 4.10's for the 1/4

just put some nitrous on it and have some fun. dont waste your time with all the other little stuff. or put a nice camshaft, i recommend Anderson Ford Motorsports cams, dont switch it from electric to manuel windows.

Just bolting on a set of trickflow heads and maybe get a cobra/explorer intake will give you a damn fast car. I went with 373's and longtube headers with stock h/c/i and wish i wouldn't have spent the money on those mods. I should got some heads instead

budget isnt a huge issue, thanks for all the imput sofar, so long tubes are better than the shorties, i thought the shorter tubes give more torq ? they are still boxed maybe i will return them

and ive heard so many people say there is a lot of weight in the doors to rep[lace them with manual

also i prefer to have the car as simple as possibles

the less wires and electronics the better

dont swap to manual locks and windows its not worth it and you will regret it later for sure....driving down the road and having to lean over and crank down a window sucks

don't neglect the suspension. if you're going to be upping the power, you're gonna want to be able to put it to the ground at the track on saturday.

i dont see the point at all...I will skip lunch on track day to shave off the 1/16 of a lb the motor weighs....or take an exlax...if I am worried about that little bit of weight I need more power....to each his own I like my air conditioning also. I will turn it off at the track.......

not having power windows doesn't bother me at all, i had manual locks and windows on my last car, i also thought about the ac but i dont think i can part with that because i live in nv, plus like i said i like to keep it as simple as possible i already took out the power side mirrors and cig lighter and pulled all the wires for that
