Auto/Manual Conversion

Hey guys, I was talking with a guy from Ford Racing today, and he mentioned that it wouldn't be that difficult to convert a 84 auto to a manual transmission.

I got some prices from him as well on a whole NEW drive train. Direct from Ford Racing.

$7600 - 302 Stock bore with a 351 Cam 10:1 compression.
$1950 - Superduty T-5 Manual
$1250 - 31 Tooth 8.8" Trac-Loc Rearend Assembly
$3650 - 5 Lug/93 Cobra Brake Upgrade.
Add another 400 or so for a clutch.

These prices all include shipping it all to Edmonton.

And its all Canadian dollars as well. What you guys think about those prices. Also what esle would I need to convert to manual. I assume the Pedal Assembly, Shifter, probably run the clutch cables as well. Am I missing anything?

I prefer older cars to new ones. They look better for one. And there is something about the 4eyed Foxes I just love.

But u should still be able to find one already done for a hell of a lot less than $15,000.

I dont plan on going ford racing for the engine I'd rather rebuild one myself more fun. But the 5 Lug/Brake conversion price seems decent. Its everything I need to put the tires on and hit the road.

And besides I bought it for a project for myself, I could have dropped 15000 on a Mustang already done but wheres the satisfaction in that?

dont buy all new parts, only main parts....
everything else, get from a junkyard. go find a t-5 yourself and rebuild it, not that hard when you have the books and patience

Still. What do I need to convert to the T-5 Manual. Do I need to do any cutting? Where do I run the cabling for the clutch, etc.

let me say, every price up there is a fucking joke..no offense to u, cause thats what they told u but dont buy any of that from them...i got my cobra upgraded t-5 from pro-motion for 850..for 7600 u could build a badass 351 with forged internals etc...or go to the classifieds on here and find a complete stroker motor or 351 for less than 1/2 that price! but for the conversion u will need a clutch, bellhousing, driveshaft, pedal assembly, get urself a quadrant and firewall adjuster, and cable, and im pretty sure u need a different cross-member...u gotta run the cable through the firewall, i havent personally done it, so i dont kno if u have to cut a hole for it..im sure somone will let u kno, or jus go take a look...and i highly suggest not trying to rebuild that t-5 on ur own unless u have experience with transmissions...thats one thing u dont wanna mess with unless u have had experience or training..i personally wouldnt dare...if u gonna be modding ur car alot i would think about buying alot stronger tranny such as a tremec, jus saves u money in the long run..

youll need to drill one hole in the firewall to run the speedo cable thru and the hole where
the speedo cable was is where the clutch cables new home will be.you may have to trim the hole for the shifter a bit.

you know you can get a boss 302 340hp crate motor for 1100 bucks less than you mentioned with all forged internals.even though its only 340 hp this block will handle
a lot more HP than a stock block.Alos lets say you add a turbo or supercharger around
15psi of boost will double your HP from 340 hp to 680 hp.I got the price from DSSracing.com

Thats why I put the prices up there. Guage peoples reaction to them. I was pretty sure I could find better. Although the 5 Lug/Brake Conversion seems to be about the same prices as the shops around here have quoted me, though I think they meant installed.

Does anyone sell a complete conversion kit? I wanna for to 17"x9" rims front and back. That mean 13" rotors am I right? Also whats the benfit to going front and rear disk?

if u get those rims u dont need 13 inch rotors..front and rear disk stop alot better and easier to do a brake job..i hate having to deal with drums...and if u have that much cash to do what was priced at the top, u can find a built 351, or build one urself..that motor has alot more potential than a 302 base..i was even looking at the classifieds on here and they got a couple 03-04 cobra motors for sale..one even had the tranny, ecu, and harness with it..not sure if u kno but they come with badass trannys.. t-56, which is a 6 speed

The conversion to 5 speed is easy if you have a donor car, did it with my 83 Convertible, need to take out the steering column. I had some links for this but they don't work any more.
