wont start??

OK put headers and o/r h pipe on and started it up. Ran great no prob just smog pump blowin still and know I need to take it off but need to get eliminator first. problem is went out 5 mins later and now wont start. On top of that it pushes back but wont push forward. Thinkin maybe starter is locked engaged? no other clue why it wouldn't start now and only rolls backwards not fwd. any ideas??

Define "won't crank".

Does it turn over? Do you hear grinding like before the engine starts to turn over? Does it just click? Do you hear nothing when you turn the key?

see if you can Jump the Starter relay. its right behind the battery on the driver side under the cover. take off the cover and get a screw driver. have the Key on but engine off. use that screw driver and touch both the big terminals on the starter relay and see if will start. if it does replace the Starter Relay solenoid.

may work or may not. just trying to help you narrow down problems.

and you can take off the Starter and take it to AutoZone or pepboys and have them check it for you.

is you car a 5spd or Auto?? what year??

use an old screw driver couse its gonna melt it a little you probably got the starter hot with the new headers tap it a little with a hammer (lightly) before you try anything more

well I did jump the solenoid this morning and it does start. replaced the solenoid for my friend and it still wouldn't start w/ the key so I jumped the solenoid again. Any ideas? Thinkin maybe his clutch safety switch went out but he just bought the car begining of dec. and he said that it has been starting w/o puttin in the clutch. Don't know if they bypassed it or not thas the only prob there.

It could be a bad ignition switch. Ford is notorious for that.
