Putting engine back together

Gonna throw things back together and i have just a couple questions:

1 - Engine has about 300 miles on it. When I put it all back together, should I just dunk the bearings in 30w oil?

2 - Timing. Of course everything will be TDC and lined up correctly. When I throw the dizzy back on and get ready to fire it up, can I just put it at 0 and work from their? or does it have to be advanced...and by how much? (mods below)

3 - Fuel. Still running a mech. fuel pump. To prep the system, do i just keep the pedal down and let it fill up that way or is their something else i should do?

306, e303, holley 600cfm, windsor jr heads, weiand stealth intake, 1" phenolic spacer

sorry if it seems like newbie question, but i am new to the v8/carb setup. built up some 4 bangers, I-6 turbo's, all fuel injected.

Well for what it's worth, I've never rebuilt my own engine but I've always heard people using assembly lube. I would assume thats the way you'd want to go.

Well I'm not sure what a "Dizzy" is, but i would assume starting from TDC would be your best bet, and then advance from there if necessary.

Finally, I'm not that familliar with carbs, or mechanical fuel pumps for that matter. But I would assume there's an easier way to prime the system before starting.

Hope others will post to help you out and if I'm wrong on anthing please, correct me. Good luck on the build.

Dizzy = Distributor

Assembly lube was used when the motor was first broke in. Do i really have to use more or can I just oil up everything and giv-er-hell

you should probably still use assembly lube seeing as how the motor is still pretty new.
start at 10 degres advance, it will start alot easier. pump the pedal a few times and make sure you prime the oil system just in case.

How do i go abouts setting it at 10* before i start it without one of those big dial indicators?

Not talking about you...Talking about the posters...

Why do you have the bearings apart???

If everything is together leave it together.

A drill and a socket works for me when priming the oil.

With the motor on a stand stabbing the "distributor" is very easy. You can watch the rocker movement and get tdc.
Line the balancer to zero and make sure you stab the distributor correctly.
