Well, then I suppose my only hope is that it will act as some sort of baffle and keep the oil from sloshin' around to much... I guess I'm not sure how a number of companies would build a product, have good reveiws and support of that product, yet... "It just doesn't really make it any stronger", or all it does is "Keep everything from falling out of the engine when it breaks". I always thought that's why we had oil pans...
Guess I still think it's money well spent.

You can tell me im a dumbass or what not but a factory block is not meant to hold over 600 hp and a girdle will not help. Factory blocks split down the middle of the lifter valley and timing chain covers and a girdle will do nothing to help this. And a windage tray is meant to keep the oil from sloshing around not a main girlde.

that's a dumb statement.

306 = .0030 overbore 302.

The extra cubes from the 347 vs 331 are the stroke length.

Stroke size makes a huge difference for hp and torque..

hey man, i'm not trying to attack you , all im trying to do is to give you helpful advise. it's your call to take it or leave it. there are a lot of great guys on this site with tons of good information to share, but if you ask a question and get an answer that you dont want then arguing back about it to defend your stuff if just counterproductive. the fact is that the main girdle is not going to make it any stronger, and i dont think i have seen more than a handful of companies in my life whos products are as great as they crack them up to be......ever heard of the sham wow?

I do appolgize, I suppose I could have reacted in a different way. I really do appreciate the advice/input. I guess I can answer the main question, I think I went with a 331 because I wanted a mild mannered street/strip car. So again I apologize to the both of ya.
P.S~ The best part about the "Sham Wow" is the guy selling it.

Its fine man im just tryin to help you out.. Dss is a great company but they tend to overate the factory ford blocks. Just dont try to make 6 or 700 hp at the tire and you should be fine..

So, hopefully no hard feelings cause I could definately use some of that good advice or opinions right about now... So I've been doing some inventory or parts I have and what I still need. The things I need are coolant, oil, spark plugs, radiator, and clutch. So I have two in mind, but I would like everyones input/ constructive critisizm... Radiator: Flex-A-Lit FLX-52100 Clutch: McLeod MCL-75203. Part Numbers from summitracing.com Any input on all of these parts would be greatly appreciated.

Some new stuff...

I ordered my radiator with hardware today, talked with D.S.S. and should be picking the motor up next week. Radiator cap I'm planning on powder coating black, I'm just going to use my old electric fan, I was told 180* was the way to go for the thermostat.

So... I pulled the trans and drive shaft today. Tried to clean up the engine bay a little bit and ran into some problems/questions. So for those that can help I would appreciate the input.
I want to get rid of the vacuum tree on the fire wall but found that the S/C line runs to the brake pedal.
A) is this something I can cap off?
B) is this something I need to run to the manifold?
Thanks for any insight.

i wonder how many of these 331 haters actually run a 347 in their cars. everyone forget about the stresses of a 347 vs a 331? you can spin a 331 to higher rpms with much less internal stress. the rod to stroke ratio is much better on a 331. i for one like the fact that most 331s will outlive most 347s

I'm not an expert but I don't think you can remove that vacuum tree. One of those lines run to your brake booster and i'm not a 100% sure but I think the S/C runst to your cruise control. I have recently finished (almost) a restore of my 88 and refreshed the whole engine bay including built 347.
