Looks like some jack ass welded an extension on the spring mount and welded another extension on the lower control arm mount on the rear axle. Fix that problem now before it kills you.

Now that is some funny stuff! I am sorry for your luck though. Looks like somebody was trying to make some room for a "DUBB" job!

Looks like a set of home made southside bars.

Good idea...bad execution.

Get rid of them.

I have Competition Engineering rear control arms on one of my Mustangs and the axle mounting portion has the same welded on "extension". Well, mine looks a little more professional then yours but there is an extention and the CE control arms attach to them. My control arms actually extend slighly past the back of the mounting bracket and you can tell by your last photo where the back part of your mount is higher then the sides as well which is very similar to mine.
Maybe someone had some type of aftermarket control arm on your car at one time and swapped it back for the stock ones?

I have had no problems with my setup yet.

Must have been done by a Camaro owner... the extension kinda resembles the back of a mullet.

It appears as though you have a shade tree lowering kit (exceprt the debachel with relocating the spring)....Is that JB Weld?. Eibach springs and Southsides or Lakewoods (if infact thats what they were trying for) are easier and cheaper. Question is, "how long did it take for those folks to think that shit up"?
