gear ratio question
this may have been asked before but what the hell. i have an 88 lx that i converted to a five speed. my question is what is the rear end gear ratio? i know that the 5-speeds came with 2.73s but i have no clue what the autos came with.

jack the rear up, have someone spin the tire around once, count how many times the driveshaft spins...

Mine was an auto and when I read the book that was in my glove box the guy wrote down that the 2.73 gears have been replaced with 3.73's dont know if he was right but I think the options back then was 2.73 or 3.08

thats what i was figuring, 3.08s. i was wondering why my car ran at higher rpms then my buddys. thanks guys i appreciate it.

Didn't they all come with different ratios? I thought they ranged from 2.73's, 3.08's and 3.23's. Take the cover off and spin the tire. Count how many times she does around and then you will know.

if you drive at higher rpms than your buddy, you have a shorter gear...
which is numerically higher spin the tire and count the driveshaft spins, then you will know for sure! |

base gear set was 2.73's, gt's and gt optioned lx's got 3.08's while v8 verts all got 3.27

my buddy has a set of 430s he will sell me for $100, my drive to work is only 3miles so i thinnnk i might go with them........

sometimes there is still a metal tag with the code. mine says 327L or something like meaning 3.27 gears from factory. i double checked with the tire spin count driveshaft revs method and it concurred

3:73's should be plenty for that car Plus your buddy may just want to unload them because that is a pretty stout gear ratio which he probably doesnt like |

430s will be fine ( if you plan on running a 30 inch tire )

i have a t5 and stock was 3.08 but now 3.55.. i have a truck w/ 37" tires and 4.56 all the way around and the speedo is still slower than the truck lol
