rebuild almost done one question

so ive been working on this motor for two months now and have it nearly done. here is what i have so far

kb forged pistons
total seal rings
scat i beam rods
clevite 77 bearings
re-ground stock crank and flywheel
this is .30 over by the way

the question is heads i am looking to run 10-12 pounds of boost after a month or two so i am going to want lower comp.

i am thinking afr 185 heads should do the job but not sure and i have already put a 7 qt canton pan with a girdle and windage tray on. the motor is in just waiting one more week for my paycheck to order heads.

any input helps thanks

i would definitely look into some R series..it will be maybe a little more but brand new heads..or jus look for a lightly used pair..u could probably find those for that range..and no AFR will ever com close to what those heads r..even the best ported afr..those heads are it, doesnt get any better lol they are 225cc, cnc machined an all..check out all the classified on here in "engine"..check each thread..i kno there was a pair of R series for sale..cant remember if they were sold or not

Why would u run trick flow r's on a 306.. Thats way to much head imo .. I would look into a set of standard tw heads or afr 165, 185's. And brand new r series are about double what he is looking to spend. He is not building an all out race motor..

first of all thanx for the input this helps alot and i plan on going supercharged and run however much boost the block can handle its a stock block so im assuming the first thing to go will be the block. and somewhere in the 500 hp range if i make it there with 3:73's in the rear i can really go turbo or charged buyt still leaning for charger. and the t-5 lol but i looking into the t-56 soon after it goes. ill post pics of the engine bay when i can and try to take some of engine, but any more suggestions are more than welcome.

k i figured. i had a local cam shop grind me a pretty close replica of the comp blower cam. but i plan on running a .600 lift cam for the hell of it until i save up for the charger that way i can give the motor a thorough break in period and be loud and roudy for the time being

they are flat's i was going to go dished to lower comp but figured that by getting a bigger head and running flats i could allow more airflow.

go with some AFR 185's, thats all you will need. also i do not recommend kb pistons for boosted aplications, especially 10-12 ppunds, they always break because of the high silicone content. invest in some probe pistons that will last you. and i doubt you will get the proper compression ratio with just a bigger head.

i will keep that in mind for next time around but i already have kb pistons in so ill give them a whirl but afr 185's should do what im looking for right? and the 10-12 thing is just at the track or whatever ill keep the boost down to around 5-8 lbs or so daily

yes the 185's will be plenty. alright good luck, hopefully your block will outlast your pistons!keep us updated on how it works.
