A/C removal question

89' 302 convertible I want to remove the a/c out of. Can I just yank everything out of the engine bay? Or will the check engine light come on? It does not work so why bother fixin it.

Im getting ready to do the same thing myself. Im pretty sure you are going to need an a/c eliminator kit. If memory serves me right, it will move the power steering in the place of your existing a/c unit.

Google it or use the search function, there is many threads on the procedure.

82-93 ELIMINATOR, A/C, 5.0 MUSTANG

or

82-93 A/C ELIMINATOR, 5.0L

i do believe that either one of these will need a shorter belt

the ac doesn't really draw any power unless you have it engaged, the biggest gain you get is loosing the weight and having the bay look a little cleaner

how much weight do you loose by ditching the ac ? how much power does it draw when running it?

I'm not positive on this but I think it weighs 20-30lbs and draws about 10 hp, I think it was darrell who has a weigh list of everything, maybe he will chime in

i think it might be closer to 40-45lbs if you remove everything from the a/c.

i really prefer to have my windows down, lol it annoys my wife when we take her van, but there are those rainy spring days that suck lol.
