sorry to bring this back but i was wondering if it legal to run just mufflers and no tailpipes cause i got a new muffler but im sick of dealing with the clearance issue with those damn things so i thought maybe i could just run mufflers and thats it

I run mufflers with no tailpipes or turndowns. Loud as hell.

It's up to you man. It's really matter of choice and legality. Not too many cops pull you over for being too loud, it's the smog issue. As I said before I'm running straight H-Pipes (illegal as hell, but don't really like to admit it). Nothing in any law, that I know about, says that the pipes have to be the full length of the car, thus the reason for side pipes. If you have an older car, it's a good idea to direct the exhaust away from the car so that the carbon doesn't blacken your under carrage. This weekend I'm going to put 90deg elbows from my H-Pipe with about 1 1/2' of tube and mount them just before my rear tires.

yeah i run around without mufflers on some....and im not sneaky about it either....i had a cop for a neighbor and honestly if i wasnt friends with him he would be a hella douche bag cop but he said even just haveing aftermarket mufflers was illegal....he said anything that made the car louder than stock was illegal....but it does take a douche bag to pull ya over for noise...unless your just running straight headers on the street

Just go get some 2.5 tubing from the auto store with a slight bend, cut it into a turn down and clamp it on the muffler. Cost 20 bucks and will point the gases down and out, and make the exhaust bounce of the ground instead of blat everywhere lol

well today im taking my car in my autohop class and going to see what i can do im thinking mabye just use some of the pipe from the tailpipes and just cut and use that for my turn down or c if i can maybe get it over to the side or something
