gears first!! 3.73 seems to be the norm. no hp gain. but, you're gonna feel that more than any other mod for the same money.

exhaust. get rid of the cats and smog if you don't have to do emissions tests. UDP, see if you can find some gt40 heads and an explorer intake from a boneyard for a few hundred bucks. that should wake it up a little bit.

you aren't going to even sniff a decent turbo setup for 1000 bucks. but the rest, you can do in your budget, if you find used stuff like i mentioned above.

start checking craigslist in your area. you can find tons of 5.0 parts on craigs.

unless you're going to be able to save some money and put a few grand in periodically for things like new heads, cam, all that jazz. in which case, i'd say just get the gears and a decent exhaust setup.

Good luck putting those head on an 86. Those pistons don't allow for shit.
All in all the best thing to do is fix everything. Adding bolt-ons to a car that has been neglected won't help anything.

this is what i was going to say next. i spent 1300 just getting mine road worthy before i could even think about getting anything to make it any faster.

and, mine has performer rpms on it. seriously doubt that the pistons are stock though. i don't know much about the engine, but i know it's been out of the car before....

zero..... you'll just be able to really upgrade it then. That's why I said a nitrous kit at first. The bottom end in an 86 really limits what you can do.

better intake, E7TE heads, dish top forged pistons instead of flat tops.

bunch of other things like spindles, bigger brakes...

there's a website that has all of the information on all years of the fox body...

Here ya go. this is the site where i got all that from. i read it a while back after i bought my 86. but i'm sure there's a lot more on there that i forgot.

that's a link to the 87. it should tell you the upgrades from the 86
