Abuse of rubber... got a quick question

SOooo I have been babying the new stang (bought around a month ago) and i am running 94.5inch belt for the current 12psi charger pulley and i have run into an issue. Currently im running gates belts and they suck but the supercharger is stretching them in a week flat. now let me inform

I have an 87 and it has an aftermarket automatic tensioner pulley. Spring loaded that looks to be in perfect shape. Now this thing is strong like none other and im noticing that the belt will get maxed out in a few days flat (if not 48 hours) now i talked to the past owner and he says he had no issue as long as he bought nicer belts that are stronger than your average autoshops serpinetine belts i have been using.

The reason they are coming off is the pulley goes verticle and doesnt apply any pressure and the belt gets sliced up by moving over a pulley. Any help??? I need a strong pulley so that is okay but why cant a belt hold its form and how do i fix it. btw these are three year warranty belts... its a kenne bell charger

thanks

are you sure your putting them on the right way? why dont you take it back to the previous owner and let him check it out. ask him which ones he bought. is the belt slipping at all or just stretching?

you need to call the previous owner, plain and simple. if he didnt have that problem and you are then you need to figure out why. call him

When you put a new belt on, where is the tensioner at then? Maybe the 94,5" belt is too long. You can adjust the idler pulley on the supercharger front plate, theres four threaded holes for it, and the hole in the idler is offset on it so the belt length can be fine tuned.

I'm still using the belt that came with the kit, i think it's Gates. No problems at all.

heres the deal, i got the tightest belt i can fit on, a 94.5 and the pulley is almost horizontal and in ten minutes of wot it can stretch it like 25%. its a strong spring loaded pulley. The pulley is the culprate.

i bought a gatorback, ill inform later.

That's strange, mine hasn't stretch basically at all. I looked at the pic you posted on another thread, maybe you could move the idler closer to the s/c pulley, and get shorter belt. Then when the belt stretches, move the idler further to have correct tension again. But i don't know how much the belt can stretch before it snaps.

I know i will get some that will say i am worng, but i have been selling auto parts for almost 10 years and selling Gates belts and hoses for eight of those years. Gates is one of the best brands-if not the best-out there. Most belts dont streach. They are made like bias ply tires with a fiber cord in them that make them super strong. Im not saying that you cant streach them a little, but not enough to cause major problems. That said, if you are putting a belt on that is too short and maxing out the spring loaded tentioner then you are causing damage to the belt and maybe breaking the cords in the belt. I had a B&M blower with a 10 rib serp belt pushing 15lbs of boost on a car for about 12 years and ran a gates belt on it with no problems.

What i am geting at is the problem has to be somewhere else, and not with the belt itself. Either your are running a belt that is too short and damageing it or the tentioner is too strong to start with.
