valve train chatter question

Ok this is above my skill level. Seems like my valve train is a little to noisy but i could be wrong. in car sounds like a gauge is going bad if youve ever hada speeo crap out on you. its definitely tapping. its a dss 308 with tw heads etc...hydraulic lifters..how do i know if it needs adjusted and for the love of mustangs am i going to hurt my motor if i keep driving it like this for awhile. also if someone is close to FORT BENNING and wants to see car in person please let me know i am willing to learn i just need someone who is not a backyard mechanic. thanks and i hope yall have a rice killing weekend.
