ignition upgrades?

what, if any advantage would i get from something like the MSD 6al ignition control box on a slightly modified motor? U.D. pullies, exhaust, no major motor mods. Also what about the "blaster" type aftermarket coils?

Leave the stock ignition. The stock igntion performs very well until you get into big horsepower.

but if you get the msd, you get to say that you have one of those, and not to mention it looks better under the hood, and it helps a lil' as far as fire goes

I'd stick that $200 toward a set of 3.73 gears.

i agree with Darrell because i spent almost $600 on the 6AL, dizzy, coil and wires and basically all i have to show for it is pretty red stuff and an adjustable rev limiter.so unless its stroked or blown, save your money. but thats just my opinion....

I stand behind MSD ignition systems. It would be an awesome upgrade and very noticable. You will feel your car running stronger, it will basically take 1 sec. off your track time doing the 6al system, blaster coil, and I would also suggest a billet Distributor. You won't be let down. That ignition set up along with cold air intake, headers, etc. will be a great start.

93 Notch are you serious? 1 sec? The stock Ford ignition is just fine on a almost stock motor as Darrell said! You need more fuel or compression to outdue the stock ignition! With your theory I suppose each sticker is worth 1/10th of a second also and maybe chrome is 1/2 second? Get real! Maybe he should just run split fires and a tornado before his M.A.F sensor and he could be in the 10's?!

Where the hell did you come up with this? I have $1000 that says you can't back this bullshit up. Hell, I have $1000 that says you won't gain a tenth of a second from this, much less a full second. Larocca ran 9s years ago with the stock TFI distributor. Take that for what its worth....

He forgot to mention that he also runs splitfires! thats where the extra umph comes from :wink Shoot if the 6 box is worth a second might as well go with a 7 box and be in the single digits with a stock longblock!

speaking of splitfires, i have been told that mustangs "run like shit" (comparitively speaking) on ANY type of plug but motorcraft. is there a popular brand or is that true? i haven't had mine long enough to know. i know plugs are probablty like anything else, you get what you pay for, but platinum plugs are all expensive, so could you use a performance brand?

Copper plugs are the best hands down. Copper moves electricity like nothing else can. Platinum plugs were introduced to keep TCO #'s down for dealers. Stick with a good copper plug and you'll be better off. Motorcraft has always worked well for me.

Platinum is only for longer plug life. As far as I know.

Platinum is so the dealer doesn't have to start replacing plugs under warranty. It saves them $$$.
