Not quite sure what your talkin bout Darrell, but if you mean the wire that delivers the power it is a 6 gauge wire i think might be 8 but im pretty sure its 6 gauge. Red power wire btw.

If someone did a 3G upgrade on the car and it has a 130amp alternator, you need a 4 gauge wire (with a 150 amp fuse) running from the alternator to the battery or you will run into problems like this or even worse, like melted wires or a fire. Alot of people try to reuse the factory 10 gauge wires or install a new wire that is smaller gauge than required. I guess you will know for sure when you put the new alternator in.

Lol. As I stated in yesturdays post my new alternator is already in. The only wire on this one is a 6 gauge power wire that goes to a juction of sorts on the driver side fenderwell, and a wire goes from there to the battery. No inline fuse though, is that something i should look into?

I don't care about your new alternator, I'm talking about your old one. New or old alternator, if its not wired correctly then it is going to give you problems at some point.

listen to darrell, he doesn't feed you fluff.

But yes a 6 ga wire is a lot better than reusing the factory 10 gauge orange/black wire.

I would suggest getting a 150 amp inline fuse for you alternator wire. For some reason if the regualtor crapped out and went full field, it could pull 130 amps through that wire really fast --- fire hazard.

cant help you out, but I have a question of my own

Can i have my E fan on full manual? As in not connected to Tstat or any relays, jsut power and a power switch to turn on and off manually? Less wiring hassles for me, and i dont mind flipping switches

I did not change any wiring when i put my new alternator in therefor the wiring was not the issue, but ya i understand what your talkin about now. However there has never been a inline fuse in my supply wire, should i put one in? Btw forgot to metion all problems are solved, i brought this thread back up to celibrate man come on.

You need a relay. It will work without a relay but it is stupid to wire it without a relay.

hey sasquatch, make sure u put a relay thats big enough for your fan ur using. just ran into the same problem with my fan taking to much power for the 30 amp relay i ha used. Check your amp drawl on the fan and make sure your wires and relay are big enough throughout the entire circuit youll be putting together. id ask darrell for help if u run into any problems, he shed some light on my situation. If u dont do the relay make sure u get a really high amp switch, otherwise you might start a fire.

MustangMatt96GT if you want my old alternator you can have it for the cost of shipping plus six bucks for a six pack of beer, but i warn you it dosent charge worth a shit at idle so unless you car is dragstrip only its not worth your time.

Also Darrell how worried should i be about putting a fuse in my supply wire?
