well...first off motor wise my car was bone stock up until this build and it was my dd so, i didn't/couldnt break the car really bad otherwise i would have no way to get to school/work. secondly, the nearest track is over an hour away from my house, so to go up there and have something break over an hour away from home could really suck, considering i only recently bought my truck which could tow the car home. now that the car is strictly for "fun" i am going to get more involved with shows, racing, etc...

well you have a sick build. I wish i knew then when i first bought this car, what i know now about making power, and i would have bought part's and built a car like you are.

instead i ported my stock heads like a retard!

your car should be pretty stout.

BTW ive been looking for a old f350 7.3l Diesel , but every one i find is like $6k+

mine was 13k...shes mint though only 58k mi, perfect paint, and came with a 9ft fisher minute mount plow that looks like it was never used once. i could have bought a newer truck for that money, but i really like the older body style and the 7.3 turbos are the best ford diesels imo.

+1 im the same way.

around here there ether beat to crap, or they want to much money for the damn truck.

plus 4x4 on the 7.3's seem to be hard as hell to find.

A buddy of mine has one, and is willing to sell it, but its a long bed, and i dont need that.

no you don't have to break it in cam wise, but i want to break in the motor as a whole...everything internally is brand new, the chip he installed was just to make sure air/fuel was in the ballpark, timing was dead on etc. I want to put about 500mi on her before I dyno it and tune it for max hp even if its not really necessary.
break the motor in how you plan to drive it. The only soft time I/my friends put on our motors are during the break in first 30 min, then we just beat on them. Have yet to have a problem, and the rings have sealed perfectly

so guys...like all who i have felt sorry for in the past...i too made the incredibly ignorant mistake of forgetting to put in my hood pins took the car for the first drive on the street yesterday, and she was runnin soo good, finally got most of the bugs worked out. i was takin it real easy down my road, and then got a little over confident. ripped on her a little bit, once i hit third gear, hood flew up! smashed in the cowl area pretty good, cracked the cowl area on the hood....oh well though, you live and you learn. pics will not be posted im too embarassed haha.

alright well i figured it wasnt fair to not post some pics up...so here they are

the pics 1. are of the cowl area after i worked on it for like 4 hours yesterday after it happened...i got most of the dents out, but it still has a way to go...and 2. the way the camera took the pics does not do the dent justice...it really is pretty bad still.

i have a little experience with body work, so im gonna still work on it and then just have the shop finish it up and spray it. positives are that, windshield and roof did not get affected, trim around windshield is fine, cowl grille was not on the car at time of incident...so thats fine, and most importantly nothing in the engine bay got fucked up, and hood can be saved, the crack is minor and non structural. definitely not as bad as it could have been...

now im thinkin that i might shave the areas where the windshield wipers go, since im not running wipers ne more...and i was thinkin about smoothin out the whole cowl area and putting some custom vents in it rather than the cowl grille.

been there done that.. thats why i purposely did not take the latch off this car because i have had that happen too many times.. and with this paint i didnt want it to happen again.

even if i had hood pins i would still use a latch. i suggest you put one back in or it WILL happen again even if you say i have learned my lesson... trust me you will be at the track and something will happen like your tranny blowing third gear out and you are pissed and pop your hood for no reason and then decide to leave and drop your hood but get distracted by a friend then get in your car and start going about 40 down the highway and it flies up then you have no third gear and a effed up hood an hour away from home. your so pissed you throw the sand bags from the back of your car into the street for no reason.... thats just one wild made up story that could happen... not saying it happend to me or anything..
