Smoothing an Engine Bay (PICS)

Figured I'd start a thread for people to see how to go about smoothing an engine bay...as well as for people to offer suggestions/advice on how to go about wiring and such.

The pics are of my build so far...
Started when i blew the sychros for 2nd and 3rd in my tranny messin around with a 96 ss camaro.
Decided to pull the motor and tranny, got the tranny fully rebuilt, stripped the motor down and just rebuilt the stock 302, bottom end is done, just waitin on cash to put the top end together.
after some suggestions from some guys on the forum and some research the top end combo will be
canfield 195 heads
prewitt racing polished spyder intake
custom grind cam by jay at camshaft innovations
probably some crane 1.7's
an anderson power pipe
a bbk 75 mm throttle body (open for suggestions though guys)

as far as this thread is concerned though just wanted to post a bunch of pics i have- kinda a step by step to smoothing your engine bay.

heres the car

stock engine bay

motor all stripped down

bottom end together

welded up passenger side

drivers side

mar-glass initial coat

rage bondo all sanded down ready to head to paint

trailered to paint...should have her back in a few weeks

let me know what u guys think...any experience/tips/advice when i go to hide the wires would be great.

Looks good bro. What is involved in doing this? Do you just fill in all holes, smooth it down, then bondo it over and sand it down?

yea pretty much...u have to build these little shelves to weld in place over the channels that run along the front frame rails. once u get it all welded up starts the daunting task of grinding, bondoing, and sanding forever. then u have to hide all the wires and run them through the inner fenderwells.

haha

Great work! I know a lot of people who do this on their show cars and seen in person how much "fun" it is. If I knew how to weld a little better I'd delve into a project like that while my civic is apart just to see if I could do it with my 86. Are you going with the green in the engine bay?

you could always just shrink up the hole where it goes...might not look quite as clean but you'll still have the washer's. just take it completely out before u start weldin...i got a little too close and melted a hole in it. i know...dumbass. haha

yea the project is tedious but hopefully will be worth it...in response to the add quote haha...

the paint has a light silver flake in it...u can see it in person but not in the pics. so the bay will be metallic green and the k member flat black. i might paint the strut tower brace green too. idk if it will clear my new intake setup though.
