engine gasket problem

I have an 89 5.0L
I purchased an engine gasket set from felpro and I seem to have some discrepancies with the valve stem seals. There set supplied 8 blue seals with a thick band on the bottom and a thin band on top, and also 8 black seals with a thin band on the top and a thin band on the bottom. What is for the exhaust and what is for the intake? The ones that came off were all black with thick bands on the bottom.
Also there was these thin biscuit plastic items on top of the seals, however the new kit did not come with these, What are they for? My set came with 16 black rubber o rings.
Any idea to these matters?

i dont kno if u kno, but the way u place the gasket on it important..if u dont, there is a flat side and a slightly rounded side to a gasket..say if u were putting ur header gasket on, that FLATside would go against the head...lower intake manifold, flat side goes to the head..head to block-flat side goes to the block..FYI
