Trick Flow intake

Should i get this?

and if i do, should i go ahead and bolt it on, or just wait for heads and a cam?
they should be coming in the next few months (maybe).

p.s. my engine is bone stock. only mods: Hooker shorties, Mac O/R H, Mac catback, 3.73's. oh and no smog pump.

Under $300, thats not bad, mildly used ones go for about 325-350 around here, if its in good shape i say go for it. But depends a little bit, what Cam and Heads are you getting?

Either way i would prob wait till ya get your other stuff to at least put it on, imo, just doing double work and you wont notice a lot of diff. with everything else stock, i would also suggest in upgrading the fuel system when ya do the H/C/I swap, if ya havent already.

But for the price i would.

don't have a plan for the heads and cam yet. i'd like to use the cam i have. unfortunately, all i know is that it's a Lunati. still in the block laying in my garage and i don't know specs on it. but, i'm not dead set on it. like i said i don't really have a plan as of yet, but i figured if i can get a good intake for relatively cheap, the why not.

any suggestions on heads and a cam would be appreciated.

and, i've heard that the stock fuel system shouldn't be a concern until making like 400+ HP. maybe i read that wrong. but, i'm sure i'll do it anyway. waht would you guys suggest? like a 255 pump and 30#'ers?

Yeah, well i would pick it up, either way, imo if nothing else you can sell it later and im pretty sure you could get your money back, or damn close no problem, as long as its in good shape.

Well if the block is out of the car, why not try to pull it out and see if ya can get a part # or something? at least worth a shot so you know what your working with.

Im no expert, and i dont pretend to be, but i would think that its really not all about the parts rather than a good combo. Obviously Trick flow for example says with there full kit (170cc heads, Stage 1 cam and TFS intake) they dyno a 306 to 370 HP. Now note that thats with all the supporting mods, but thats pretty decent for a 5.0. N/A. But its really up to you depending on how much money you can spend a lot of people here would say TrickFlow, or Canfield but those are bigger heads and you would want a more aggressive cam to get the flow#'s. Another thing is since you have the block out, you could just Bore it out and get a 347 Stroker kit and throw some heads on with that intake? But before we get caried away.... Whats your Budget and what are your goals for this car. HP Numbers, What will it be ( DD, Track only, street rod and so on )? Its always good to set some goals and most importantly a budget, b/c no one wants to start a project and not be able to finish it b/c of finances. Again im no expert, just trying to help.

as of right now, i have a pretty much stock 91 notch. engine in it, running and it's good to go.... just stock.

the engine that's in my garage came out of my other car that i sold. i've thought about building something out of it. bt i don't know if i want to take that on right now. budget..... not really setting a clear number, but, i'll be saving as much as i can. and if things work out, i should have an extra 30-35 grand in the bank in the next year. so, that should pretty much cover me as far as the budget.

i tried to get the cam out, but couldn't get it to move. do i need a puller or something?

my DD is a honda accord. so, this car is just for fun. sunny days and maybe a trip to the track every once in a while.

see above post again.

as far as HP goals, i'd like to see 300+ at the wheels. nothing too fancy. maybe put a 100 shot on it for the track. not too crazy.

Oh i was too quick for ya

Well to me 300+ at the wheels is a lot. I was doing some research and i found people who did the top end Kit from trickflow ( with all its supporting mod ) Most of them made about 285-295 RWHP. So if you want more HP, i would say either get larger Trick flow heads and a bigger cam, or Canfield heads (190+cc) and they are cheaper than the TFS equivalents. And ya could always go Custom Grind cam, def. would get your money out of your combo their.

Or depending on how old your block is ( how many miles are on it and if its not in the best shape ) You could Get a 347 Stroker kit for it, pistons, Stroker cam and so on, they start at about $800 at FordStrokers.com 331-347-393-408-418-427 stroker kits and ford parts. And then ya could get some nice heads and im sure you would be damn happy there.

Btw do you have gears in your rear end, those are some of the best mods you can do on these cars. really makes a big difference, imo.

3.73's in it now. but i'm putting a 4.10 in it. it's an AOD. but WHEN that takes a dump, i'll put in a C4 or something.

and yeah, when i still had the 86, i spoke to woody about a 347 shortblock. so i'm familiar with his stuff. if i went with a stroker, i'd more than likely be dealing with him.

well, 300+ is a goal. not necessarily how far i'll be going. but, you never know. if i get that big fat pay check, i think i'll be looking at more than that. but for now, i'm sure i'l be happy with whatever i can get out of good H/C/I.

There really is no need at all for a custom grind can at all. There are PLENTY of off the shelf cams avail. for the 5.0 that will give u just what u r lookin for. Custom grinds usually r 4 high HP applications where u r lookin 4 something really specific.. U really dont need that, dont waste your time or the extra money 4 that especially since u r really not lookin 2 make a ton of power..

Why go with a C4? If u say that u r gonna have maybe all this extra money next year I my self would just buy a complete Lentech Street Terminator AOD. They are Kick ass trannies, good 2 800hp with a lifetime limited warranty. All that 4 $3000. A C4 with 4.10 gears with no overdrive is not gonna be good at all on the highway. Oh and the Lentech also has OD lockout among a few other features.. Here check it out... Street Terminator AOD

i'll definitely look into that. transmission is more than likely going to be way down the road anyway. i'm not driving this thing at all really. and i'm not planning on beating the shit out of it on the street or anything. when the AOD goes, i'll look into the Lentech.
