b303 cam with 1.72rr's

Is it safe to run this combination on a set of explorer gt40 heads? Not the p heads. When i installed them they seem to compress the spring almost all the way. Is this normal?

With stock springs? What's the specs on that cam?

Yes the springs are stock. I believe the lift on the cam is around .480

Just checked and the lift is .480 and the duration is 284.

I don't think you're maxing the springs at .480 lift but I would change the springs out if you put a new cam in anyway. . .

i agree. when you put in a new cam the spring should be changed. when you run a certain duration on the srpings for any period of time. the spings become acustomed to that compression. when you change cams you changed the stress point on the spring which cause which cause the spring to heat on diffrent places. it could or could not effect performance,
