Bubbles in the cooling system after the engine warms up is 99% of the time a head gasket. Fluctuating temp gauge is another indication of a bad head gasket. Why did you replace the freeze plug? Did it pop out? Did someone put head gaskets in this car at one point? If so, where they put on backwards?

Make sure you take the heads in to be surfaced.

the history of the car is unknown. i drove two hours north pulling my lifted truck on a dolley to trade not seeing this car. i was told it ran and drove 6 years ago before it was parked. he put a battery in it and started it before i could throw some lube in the cylinders, but it still started. i replaced a freeze plug because the old one had hole in it...when i got it, it wouldnt hold coolant, couldnt tell where. pulled accesories and it had bad head freeze plug. replaced, and then it was fine for a while. one day it overheated, first day i actually drove it. pulled the heads and cylinder 2 was full of water. pistons dont really look scorched and cylinder walls still have some cross hatching. inside looks ok, gonna throw a set of head gaskets at it friday and see what else it needs. also have the heads resurfaced and checked for true. thanks guys, anything else i should replace? i should also prime oil system when i put shit back together correct? i read a thread on how to, but i dont 100% trust google for good answers...

thanks man, and no, i just put it up as far as it would go, but the hood wasnt that big of a deal, it was side room that was the biggest deal i think, getting to the bottom and back bolts on the heads...i didnt pull the headers either though...
