I can say from personal expierence that you are incorrect... There were two Krystals in HS and one Crystal and they were all uglier than shit.

BTW- Hatch, I agree with project about the autometer dimmer box, just get it and save yourself alot of hassel down the road ( and it will pay for itself since your blowing through money on fuses ).

unhook your gauge wiring and see if everything works alright, then if it does you know its something you did. i forgot that you are running an electric temp gauge, are you running the power wire to the dimmer, if so you should not be? they do have a power wire yes? and also a positive and negative for the light? if so then hook the power wire for the light to the dimmer switch and make sure the ground you have is good (sand down the metal to get good contact on both spots) and put the power wire for the actual gauge to the radio fuse. you wont need more than like a one or two amp fuse for the light, and im not sure about the other power wire......assuming you have one

I never did figure it out as to why it was blowing up my dimmer switches ( and fuses because of it ), but I havent had an issue once I got that autometer box ( which has been awhile ). I was like you though, cut power into the radio power ( with no radio ) and the ground to a good ground, and the other wire to my dimmer switch for lighting control.

I don't agree with that at all. He is blowing fuses more than likely because the gauge is wired improperly so if that's the case than why put a band aid on the problem instead of fixing the problem? I see way to many people band aiding problems these days instead of diagnosing and fixing the problem. But then again that has not been determined as the issue so if that isn't the issue than buying the dimmer box would be a waste of money. Find the problem, fix the problem and then buy a dimmer box if you think the factory dimmer switch isn't cool enough to do the job.

i dont think i wired it wrong, its 2 wires

and 91project i just kinda gave up and unplugged the light in my pod, i could see how if it grounding out against the body it would make it blow fuses, but depending on which fuse blows, the pod will stay on but the dash lights wont so idk, just got frustrated and said fuck it for now

Obviously it is wired wrong if it is blowing fuses and since you've unplugged it the fuse blowing has stopped. Either that or there is a short in the wires or gauge. It doesn't matter if there is 2 wires or 222 wires, it can be wired wrong. It could be that you have it spliced into a slot that is not designed to handle the extra load, hence the 5 amp fuse. The fuse is sized according to the wiring. If you put a bigger fuse in so it doesn't blow, guess what is going to happen next....

I know what hes saying about not being able to wire up two wires wrong... When I mentioned the dimmer box it wasnt suppose to be a bandaid, its suppose to be the proper way to do it. The dimmer switch cants handle these guages being wired into them, hence why it keeps frying them. Hatch, Im 99% certain its your dimmer switch. Swap that out ( $5 off ebay ) and wire everything into the autometer dimmer box and you wont have to worry about running into this agian...

I agree with this. Placing a 15A fuse in a holder that came with a 5A fuse is straight up DUMB!!! Unless of course you're trying to catch your car on fire and then you're on the right track.

You said that when you put a 5A fuse in (like you should have), it blows when you turn the lights on. This should indicate to you that you have added to much load to the circuit. This is not a reason to increase the fuse size, it's a reason to find a different circuit to hook things up. You should NEVER increase the fise size as they are determined by the wire size. Increase the fuse rating and you can melt the wires and catch your car on fire.

I agree and would have mentioned it earlier but I just assumed this was unsaid common knowledge... This isnt a hillbilly forum for trucks where someone has their radio, four KC lights, CB Radio, and beer cooler all ran off thier cig lighter.

That's what I would do. The circuit w/ the cigarette lighter is a good one to tap into (especially if you don't use it). It takes a decent amount of current to heat up the lighter so the wire is big enough to handle it. If you don't use the lighter, you have more than enough room to run a few lights.

No you need to replace your dimmer switch, THEN replace the fuse, and finally wire your guage up to something else ( or the dimmer box listed above if you wish to controll the brightness )...

EDIT: the "No" was directed at 93 not 03...
