Won't Start...

Well back to the forums after a year break, although this time I have a 92 5.0 instead of an 02 GT... The problem I have been having is the car has been stalling and will just crank once trying to restart... give it 5 minutes to sit or so and it fires right back up. This problems seems to have no set of conditions, it happens hot or cold, full/empty tank, any speed/ gear operation or just sitting at a light. I will be driving along and it just cuts out like someone turned the key off...I know these have problems with TFI modules, but it doesn't follow the typical symptoms... I am leaning towards fuel pump right now but haven't been able to check pressure... I am taking the car to the shop tomorrow, to continue troubleshooting. Thanks in advance guys and gals.

IAC motor. When you try to restart it do you give it any gas. Try giving it maybe half throttle when it wont start. If that causes it to start then i would learn towards the IAC motor. You can actually take the IAC motor apart while your testing and manually operate the plunger and see if it will start that way.

When trying to restart I have tried half throttle and full throttle. Right now all it does is crank... Do you think that could cause the random stall though?

And once its running it runs strong... not sputtering and a smooth idle.

Check your fuel pressure. If it was the TFI, the engine wouldn't start at all but it would crank. So I don't think that's your problem. Replace the fuel filter and see if that does anything.

Yea it was about a once a week issue but now it doesn't start at all. I did replace the fuel filter about a month ago once the symptoms started.. The car didn't have any problems for a couple weeks, then it came back. I have been trying different things each time it cuts out. Banging on fuel tank, working the car back and forward while in gear... ect.

You gotta start with the basics. Check for spark and fuel when it won't start. Also check the fuel injector harness. And see if it has a pulse. Sounds like it may be a computer but you need to do some troubleshooting.

x2 on the computer.

But check your fuel pressure too. Fuel pumps can also be 'weak' and cause havoc like this.
