I need help with my motor...

I have a bone stock 5.0. I am thinking about doing a 331 stroker with GT40P heads, e303 cam, cobra upper and lower intakes, and full exhaust with 2.5 inch pipes......i guess im asking is there anything wrong with this set up? Im not looking to get myself in trouble with hp, just enough for when I need to see someones front bumper in my mirrors...

If you want to see the most out of the 331 stroker, id recommend rethinking your top-end. The gt40p heads and e303 cam will be holding you back.

Yeah with that top end a stroker is going to be way choked down.....why a 331 and not 347 if you are going to do it? I would save the money on the rotating assembly and machine work and order you a top end kit from trick flow and then later down the road save up some money and do the stroker. Does the motor need to be bored now? is it running good? what is done to it....need more info....what do you have to spend?

the motor itself is bone stock, the only thing i have done to is thats not stock is the fuel injectors, they are from a 99 mustang....i wanted to do 331 instead of 347 just because i wanted more hp but not enough to get myself in trouble.....you guys have any suggestions on what i should do....id like to keep to somewhat of a budget....maybe 2000 - 2500

get a trickflow top end kit and call it done...Heads,Cam, and Intakes matched to work well together and about your price range and not near as much labor cost involved.....then when you are ready you have enough top end to keep up with a 347 rotating assembly and bore it .030 over.....you will pick up more HP with that top end than doing the stroker and those heads you listed

so your saying to use stock parts with the trickflow top end kit and cam is better than to do a 331 stroker with stock heads and cobra intakes?

I agree with whats been suggested... do the top end kit now and enjoy the 300hp and pickup a stock block or explorer motor and build up your stroker with that then swap the trickflow top end over and your done with minimal downtime

When you have the heads off for the top end swap check the cylinders and see what kind of shape they are in. Does the car blow smoke or use a lot of oil? if not you are probably in good shape and dont need to bore the motor or do pistons or rings. You can always pull a compression test and see how it comes out and do a visual on the cylinders. Depending on how long before you do the stroker you could be fine, cause you will need to bore it when you do that. Or like someone else suggested get another block and build it and swap all of your parts. Or get a long block from FordStrokers.com 331-347-393-408-418-427 stroker kits and ford parts. and then put your trickflow top end on it. You have a lot of things needed when going to a stroker that you dont take into consideration.....TB, MAF, Injectors, Fuel pump, adj fuel pressure reg., etc it adds up very fast. You will be faster with that top end and no stroker than you would with the stroker and stock heads

so you think that if i were to put a TEK on, the rest of the block and internals would be able to keep up? How much HP gain are we talking about with this TEK anyways?
