Cutting Out...


Hey guys I have been having a problem with my car cutting out. I have driven the car a couple a hundred miles so far this year. Like the 4th time ago the car lets say cruzin in 3rd or 4th or sometimes when I get on it, the car would cut out 4 like 3-7 seconds. The a/f display goes to 17.9 & is I hit the gas pedal sometimes it will buck and sometimes it will do nothing. Its weird. I new I was having some problems with my ignition switch " the lock cylndier part" because it fealt really wierd sometimes and on occasion I could remove the key while the car was running and it would stay running. I did some research and also found that the actual electrical switch that the ignition activates when u turn the key can be a problem. I mean the car is a 93 so it has lots of key cycles on it. So I replaced them both, very easy 2 do.. I took the car for a ride and noticed right away that it seemed 2 idle better and my volt gauge on the dash went up a noticable amount. I drove the car 4 about 60 miles or so and it seemed perfect!! I though that was it. It cruzed all that time without doing it. I got on it a little bit a few times but not really hard and it was fine. Then at a red light there is a Dodge Ram SRT10 and the light turns green and we just roll out normal and as I hit second he decides 2 lay it down!! Now I am 36yrs old and I am not an avid street racer but there was NOOOO WAY IN HELL!!! I was gonna let that guy hangin with his buddies tellin them how he smoked this worked Mustang.. So I laid into it and my M/T drag radials paid 4 themselves right there as I effortlessly walked away from him, then as I gained speed and the tired were fully adhered 2 the road I floored it then it happened the a/f display went right 2 17.9 and this time as I hit the gas it did not recover. I coasted in a parking lot opened the hood just 2 have a peek "ya never know what u might find" & nothing that I could c was wrong..

does the car have a tune on it? have you replaced your 02 sensors recently? does the car keep running when you turn the key off? cleaned the maf recently? good fuel pressure? spark plugs good? DID YOU DO ANYTHING RIGH BEFORE THIS STARTED HAPPENING?

Yes I have a PMS it is tuned
I do not run o2 sensors
I replaced both the key switch & the electrical switch on the colum
Mass Air clean
I only have a FP gauge under the hood 4 adjusting.. Stupid I know next purchase this week is a longer braided line and gauge bracket so I can mount it on the cowl.
Spark plugs perfect.
No I did not do a damn thing..

I mean even right after it happened 2nite I was like 20 miles from home and it drove perfect. I waited till I got less than a mile from my house and got into it some & it was fine. I did not floor it but I got into it pretty good.. I really need 2 get that gauge mounted where I can c it 2 c if I am losing fuel pressure. If I am then I need to find out why the pumps r losing power. I would think that is what it would have 2 b because either pump would b able 2 run the car by itself if need b. I put the booster pump in 4 the nitrous 2 have that extra fuel for my wet kit. Anyway gotta mount that gauge..

I need 2 get that fuel pressure gauge inside the car and some long leads that I made up hooked 2 a meter so I can monitor the pump voltage and the fuel pressure. If that turns up as good then I will go farther..

Is it possible... since you replaced your ignition switch and you noticed your volt gauge go up, that might have something to do with wiring somewhere else? I really have no idea about electrical, just trying to help out...

I agree. The first thing to do is check the fuel pressure while having the problem. You could have a failing fuel pump or wiring problem like a bad or loose ground.
