Starter Shorting Out

The wire from my starter to the relay is grounding out. When it is connected to the post with the battery power wire on it, I get huge sparks when I go to connect the battery. The battery wire is brand new. The starter wire s brand new. Is this a bad starter, or what is wrong. I've tried two starters.

I did that before I posted. There is only one place for the wire to go on the starter. From what I've looked at, on the solenoid the starter wire and battery wire are supposed to be on the same terminal.

If you put the starter cable and battery cable on the same terminal on the soleniold then it defeats the purpose of having a solenoid and the starter will continously turn over.

Thanks Darrell. That's what I thought but the two foxes I looked at were wired that way.

I'm pretty sure that you (89LX347) have a 93 style solenoid and probably a mini starter. IJust throwing that out there. 'm using the stock starter and solenoid (I believe). Both cars I looked at used the stock style starter and solenoid. I'm not working on the car until after class tomorrow, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. Thanks for the help guys.

Then you must have the 92-93 starter set up with a solenoid on the starter and on the fender well.
