want to mod 1990 stock 5spd...help please

I have a completely stock 5spd, and looking to make it nasty but still streetalble. Been thinking bout head, cams, headers, and gears. Also thought bout supercharger. What suggestions would you make or have for me.

I live in central Iowa, so if anyone is from around here, would love to find out what you have and where is the best place for work around here.

Thanks,
Rocket

How much money do you have to spend and how much horsepower do you want? You have to answer at least the first question before anybody can help you.

5K you should sell your car, put the money together, and buy one already done for 1/2 the money

Here are a couple different options for you:

#1 - gears and a used Vortech S-trim. Total cost would be about $2500.

#2 - Heads, cam, intake, gears, etc. I'd piece a kit together, I would not buy one of the Top End kits out there. A set of Twisted Wedge CNC185 heads would be nice. I like the Canfield 192cc heads too. Call Camshaft Innovations or Cam Motion for a custom grind solid roller and then top it off with a good intake.

You should have no problem making 330+ hp to the wheels no matter what route you choose. Keep in mind there are alot of hidden costs. You will need a larger fuel pump no matter what route you go. You will also need some good subframe connectors to keep the body from twisting up with all of that new found horsepower. If its a 5-speed car this would be a good time to put a performance clutch in it as well as a safety bellhousing. I know everyone thinks safety equipment is too expensive and would rather spend that money on other go fast parts but after the clutch takes your foot (or feet) off, you will wish you had a safety bellhousing. I posted pictures of one of my old cars that exploded a clutch on the street on this site last year. The damage wasn't pretty. If you have an automatic you will need to switch to a higher stall converter or the car is going to perform like a turd. If you do a head swap you will want to get a set of ARP head bolts as well. Don't forget about rocker arms, gaskets and other unexpected parts. $5000 goes quick but you can do alot with it if you plan everything out. Looking for used parts isn't a bad idea either. If you buy alot of the stuff used you might be able to get the heads, cam, intake, gears AND supercharger for $5000. Its a buyer's market right now with so many people unemployed.

You can spend all that money on heads cam intake manny, wouldnt it be easier and more beneficial to just turbo it?

get a solid kit for 3 to 4 grand and run boost, i dont know much...B&G has a turbo kit under 3 grand, they dynod it on a stock 5.0 420hp....

i think a boosted stang would kill a built 5.0 motor...HCI vs Boost....thats just me, i love seeing people spend tons of money on there motor and none on chassis or suspension and still run 14's

3k on turbo
the left over on chassis and suspension (gears and short throw too)

well, Im just not sure what is the best route? All seem like good ideas. Maybe I should start with gears, pullys, exhaust, and susp upgrade and see how i like it. Then go into cams/heads.

What is the thing I saw somewhere to open the fender up for the intake? Is there something in there that I should be removing to get better airflow??
