'98 Explorer heads and intake.

I found a set of heads and intake off a '98 Explorer 5.0L, are these the GT40 heads and intake? If so I can pick em' up for $75 a head and $50 for the intake(guess that's intake and plenum) which would be a great deal even if I have to pay an extra $90 to get the heads re-worked. Don't have the casting numbers so I can't tell ya' anymore about em' then what I've already said. Talk to ya'll later.

Someone mentioned "issues" with the BBK shorty headers that I've got on the car. Another guy said to just run short plugs and 90 deg boots on the plug wires and I'd be ok. So, other then that will the headers bolt up with basically the same gaskets and stuff? If this swap will work then I'll save a TON of cash AND get the parts that I want. What about the TB on this intake, 65mm?, worth buying? or get an aftermarket one? Thanks, sorry for all the questions, I just want all my ducks in a row before I turn a wrench because I'll be under a time limit to get the car back on the road so I can get back and forth to work. Thanks.

The throttle body will require u to remove(grind) the spotweld holding the throttle shaft to the plate(where your cable goes on the bottom of the TB) it is joined to. do the same on your stock TB. put the one off your car on the xplorer TB, and spot weld it in place.

You'll have to cut and splice the TPS wires from the xplorer TPS to yours too. All said and done, I'd just buy a aftermarket TB.

That is an exceptional deal. 98 Explorers had GT40P heads. By the heads and intake. Have the heads resurfaced, get a valve job and toss in a new set of valve springs and they will be good to go.

And how do I tell if they're equal length? I'll get an aftermarket TB, will I need an EGR plate or not? I'm not nore will I ever run an EGR, hot air in an intake stream is just plain stupid,LOL. So what's it going to take to get the heads and intake hooked up to my Mustang 5.0L?

Do the tubes on your headers look like they are all the same length? If so they would be equal lengths... You can tell shorties that are not equal lengths pretty easily.

I've never really gave em' a close look. I do know they've got a lot of dents in em', not sure why. So worse comes to worse I'll need a new set of headers to get these heads to work. Is that it? I'm getting a new TB and MAF and I'll also pick up a new IAC and TPS along with a couple new O2 sensors. I want all the sensors to be new so I'll not have any issues with em'. Will I need an EGR Plate to bolt the TB to the Explorer intake or will it fit as a direct bolt on? Thanks.

Ok, reading your post 93, the headers are "curley" so they must be equal length. So will I need unequals or will the equals work?

My vote would be to just get some long tubes, but then your going to need a new midpipe and a few other odd bits...

You will need an EGR plate or an EGR eliminator plate. The throttle linkage hooks to the EGR plate so you need one of the two so you can mount your throttle linkage. You will need about 4-8 hours to do the heads and intake swap depending on your level of experience.

Here's two pics of the driver's side header and one of the Passenger's side. On second look they may be non-equal length.

I planned on taking at least two days if not three to get everything done. First half of the first day, remove all the old stuff, second half, bolt up the new stuff, Second day, tune everything in and Thrid day just incase ol' Murphy strikes.

Your headers are stock unequal length headers.

If your going to spend the money making air flow better why would you want to stick with the factory headers?
