The million dollar question - Ash tray door.

Is there any way to fix or rebuilt the mechanism witht he ash tray door? I have always loved the fact that mine still worked, but I was cleaning the inside of the car this week and accidentally hit it and the spring dropped off the door and the door alignment is off a bit now. It still opens and closes it just doesnt "pop" back and forth into position like it used to.

Mine is messed up too. I wish someone would come out with a center console delete kit that'd just leave the arm rest and provide a boot for the parking brake. I think the car would look a lot neater without all that plastic between the seats.

Way back in the early 90's I broke mine. I got a primed metal replacement from Ford parts department and some interior paint to match. I thought it was a dumb idea but it still works to this day. You could try to straighten out the plastic tabs and such but they are probably to weak to stay in an any one position.

I disagree with that. I like the way the center console looks alot. Plus I have all my nitrous controls where the ash tray was at, which was nice cause I could close that door and cover it ( Not that you can really hide nitrous in a fox, but it cleaned things up a bit ).

NoLife: you have a link?

No links, I went into a Ford dealer and got it. That was YEARS ago so I have no idea if they still stock the metal one and to be honest, I've never seen another one.

Was it the entire center console or just the door/bracket?

Just the door.
I did have to replace the center console but that was unrelated My wife dropped a cigarette ash into the gap between the ash tray door and the ash tray and it caught on fire.

how about that shift boot, i have removed the entire console from the shifter back and would to find a boot for just my eBrake

i am thinking about removing the ac and then putting my radio in the center air vents bay and removing the entire center console

anyone ever see pictures of this i have heard of people doing it would like to see what it looks like or if there is a kit ??

i assume it would have to be all custom

If it's never been taken out, remove it and look for a 2" plastic tab, and the spring, plasti weld the tab where it goes, and put the spring in.
