Hurt The Mustang Last Night At The Track

Made three passes on the mustang last night. On the last pass I get done and the fire crew stopped me and said you know you are leaking anti-freeze. I got down and looked and it was just gushing out.

Looks like the anti-freeze was leaking from between the water pump and the block. Like the gasket blew out or something

Now look at that pump. Notice something. Yeah a bolt missing. Not really sure if a bolt goes thru there or not or if it’s just a drilled and tapped hole or what. ON lunch break I’m going up to auto-zone up the road to take a look at one see if that very bottom hole is thru or not. That’s the only thing I can tell right now is that the bolt worked its self out and the gasket blew right there. But see it has threads. The holes on the pump should just be drilled holes not tapped. The tapped part would be in the block.

Water was coming from inbetween the pump and the block. I’m not sure where the small drain hole is when the bearing goes out. I think it’s on the shaft or hub area. I can’t remember. Water was leaking from in-between anyway. So……..

My question would be have you ever seen a gasket blow out. The gasket that is sandwiched between the pump and block.

Is it leaking from between the water pump and timing cover or is it coming from further back like between the timing cover and block? If its coming from further back it could be a cracked block. That is where they start to leak when they split.

From laying on the ground looking up under the car.

I saw water leaking behind the balancer. Not really 100% sure exactly where. My thoughts was in-between the pump and block. But could be further back.

Have any ideas how I can tell.

The motor was still running. Not like it shut off on me.

if its threaded holes in the pump then a bolt doesnt go through there, that is for the plate that is on the back of the water pump.

Yes, check the oil for antifreeze/water.
