oh, 2 other things LOL..

#1 the car's rear end was about to fall out and explode.. it was VERY VERY NOISY and i was afraid something was going to happen.. if i had to bet, there was something going on it there generating ALOT of heat.

#2 IN MY EXPERIENCE, bigger cubes dont make much more HP... what they do make is more TQ... most 302/306 tfs headed motors make similar HP and i agree.. but the tq is usually 20-25 up with the 331..

first off, the dyno we use reads extremely conservative. My own race car makes 80rwhp less on our dyno then on speed inc's dyno. The owner of the shop recently bought speed inc's twin turbo shop car and we put it on the dyno after it was tuned at speed inc. At speed, his car made just shy of 1200rwhp. On our dyno, it made 1087rwhp... NOTHING CHANGED!! We attribute it to the Eddy current load cell that we have... I also tuned a renegade car from St. Louis who was owned by a shop owner down there. We made 808 rwhp and he went home and made 888 on his dyno..

Anyhow, i had to be conservative. Why you ask?? Well, there was NO TIMING POINTER ON THE CAR!!! I had to "guesstimate" on setting the timing to 10degrees... If this were a blown or turbocharged car, i would have passed on it.. I have done enough fox bodys to get a good idea on where the pointer is located, but i wanted to be safe. Scott was nervous from the get-go and i didnt want anything to happen. His first comment when he got there was "where can i go smoke" LOL..

Anyhow, before we made a pull, i told him that i was expecting 300-310rwhp and around 320+ tq... this is what these cars make ON OUR DYNO! Remember, this was an unported set of heads and a TFS intake..

anyhow, thanks

bob
I figured there was an explanation Bob. Nobody was doubting your ability so don't take it that way. The part about the timing pointer missing was left out of the original post . I also understand that some dynos are conservative and there are alot of variables with chassis dynos which is why I told him "I guess the numbers really don't matter, the track will tell you how it performs. If you are happy with it, that is all that matters".

Yeah, the timing pointer was a huge mistake on my part. There's no doubting that, but in all honesty, the cars been sitting 2+yrs I'm happy the car is running! There are numerous things left for me to fix on the car, ie: Temp. gauge sensor needs to be moved, my tach is off, the rear-end, I need to add a fan to the radiator. So this car isn't done by a long shot... As for the "coin" dumped into this build in the past 3months, none of it has gone to waste IMO. Sure I could have done things differently, or choosed this part over that part, but IMO the engine bay looks awsome, car sounds good, and once I get these loose ends taken care of the car might have to go back to Bob. What can I do other than that. So again, thanks to Bob and well me I guess for putting it together lmao.

not offended at all, just stating my case... I was actually quite happy with how things went considering it started off on the wrong foot with no timing pointer.. Im sure this thing will be a joy to drive after all the little things get fixed..

thanks!

Don't sweat it dude. Everybody makes mistakes. I put a sawzall blade thru the side of a mint condition notchback ones...by mistake. You can put the timing pointer on anytime. You picked the right person to tune it so I'm sure the thing will run like an rabid animal. I'd for sure look into that rear end before you drive the car anywhere. Obviously there is a problem there.

Yeah, before I went to Bob I contacted Strange since their 20min. from my house. For them to weld the tubes to the case, new gear(4.10), 31-axels, c-clip removal, steel spool, and a two week turn-around is $1320. And +1 on the rabid animal, this thing sounds great and with the rear-end should run great as well.

Lol. I wish I could of seen your facial expression on that one. Great numbers, just wait for the track numbers. People just don't understand conservative dynos. I did 350 on a mustang dyno. 10 degrees base timing, and tons of belt slip, and the car only makes 7 pounds in 4ths gear. But with a tight belt it runs nast. Tie up the odds and ends and enjoy it.

Yeah, with 31-spline axels. It's not my DD, and I've made plenty of sacrifices already I don't see why a spools' driveability should stop me now. Besides, it sounds bad-ass when you say, "Yeah it's got a spool in it"

you should be around 350 to 360 hp with that set-up, sounds good man, i just finish the install of bbk lt with bbk h-pipes and i love the way the car sounds and it appears to pick up a little more power, i see you have a similar set-up as the one i have. did you go with lt or shorties? i will post a video with the new headers. congrats on the car.

It was a blast, I had so much fun. Except for the hang-over it was a great time. It was nice to see your car in person, and I'll absolutely be there on the 9th.

The spool is like a locker all the time, I've heard if you're ever "on and off" the throttle in a limited-slip sometimes it wont engage, or "slip".
