OK guys, i bought this gauge a while ago and its just sitting here on my desk basically because i have never installed one and dont know how to. so how do i do this? does it take an after market sending unit? do i need anything else along with the gauge and a length of hose or tubing for the oil?

you need a sending unit that threads into the stock gauge's sending unit location which is next to your oil filter. also you need wiring

mechanical or electric???

mechanical, you unscrew the factory sending unit by the oil filter and thread the fitting in its place that's at the end of the tube... then you screw the other end of the tubing onto the gauge...

Make sure to install it with copper tubing and not the plastic poly flow that comes with them.

keep using the poly flow and you will have problems out of it.

They will blow out, I have seem them do it several times. If it is working for you and you feel comfortable about it then just leave it be, it's your car so do what you wish my friend.

I went to pull the mechanical OP gauge out of my car this a.m. and install a sending unit to see if the stock in-dash gauge would work(it did by the way, the guy was just to lazy to fix the problem right and rigged it with a mechanical gauge.) and the nylon tube broke in half, that stuf isn't the best, I'd much rather use copper provided you can be careful with it and not crimp it or otherwise weaken it. Even better yet, get an electrical aftermarket gauge if you don't like the factory one. That way you've not got hot, high pressure oil in the car with you.
