First time Mustang owner 86 GT

Hi everyone! Just got my first Mustang, my father picked it up from a friend of his for a really great price. It is a 1986 GT obviously as shown in the thread title. I'm not much of a V8 guy, I mainly stick to front wheel 4 cylinders, most of which are Hondas. Some of my previous cars were an 88 Daytona Shelby, 02 Ranger Tremor, 02 WRX and currently a 92 Civic hatchback. I have been over the past few days reading up about the fox body mustangs, mostly the 83-86.

Ok so about the car. It seems to be a completely stock original 302. The body work and paint were done by another friend of my fathers and looks great. Not sure if they are standard or optional but it has a/c, power windows and power locks. The corbeau seats were chewed up by a squirrel who took over the car while it had been sitting for 2 years.

I'm definitly going to be upgrading the car, I am very adpet with swapping engine and rebuilding them. Brake upgrades may also be in the future as I have seen the 5-lug conversion and it seems to yield more wheel options. From what I have read the heads used on the 86 are inferior to the other years so I suppose that I can just swap them out. My father would like to go forced induction but the motor will certainly need to be rebuilt before that route is taken.

I'll be adding to this thread with any updates and questions I have so I guess you can consider it to be my "build" thread.

Heres some pictures I took today, hope you enjoy. Any comments or suggestions for what I can do to get started would be greatly appreciated!

Poor seats, squirrel was hungry I guess

Congratulations on your first Stang and it does look good. Get that engine all detailed out and it'll be sweet. Can't believe it was just sitting for two years. Yes see if you can find the stock seats..I know some people on another forum and I am sure there are some here, that really know their foxs! They can really give you some good advice.

Sweet!! WELCOME to MM!!

Not sure what you mean by destroying it, but no, it won't be.

The engine bay needs to be cleaned and painted for sure! I'm going to clean it up for now, replace all the hoses and possibly serpentine belt as I'm sure some stuff is dry rotted. The intake tubing literally ripped in half when I tugged on it! Hope to be getting it tagged and on the road asap but I'll need to replace the intake and was hoping to sell some parts from the civic to get a decent exhaust and headers for the stang.

I know that leather was an option, what are the chances of finding a set of front and rear in good condition?

by destroying it aka rice it out i think that mustank means dont throw some euro taillights and 22" rims on the thing with 20" subs and a xbox with tv's in the headrest...instead put that money to good use and supercharge it, or slamm it, or build a badass stroker. thats what he, and I are insinuating you might do considering you are a former civic/suby owner. congrats on the upgrade to a real car though bro... good luck with it.

I still don't see the issue, being a civic or subaru owner must have a lot of hate from you all. Neither cars exterior was modified beyond body repair. The civic is recieving a 250hp prelude engine while I am driving the mustang and the subaru was rated at 350hp all wheels. Trust me when I say I am no ricer and don't put me in that category. Thanks.
